Where to Stay in San Diego this Holiday Season
Holiday travel is here and San Diego is always a top destination. 70 and sunny may be San Diego’s calling card, but with new cultural points of interest including the San Diego Symphony’s brand new outdoor concert venue, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, the reopening of the Mingei International Museum at Balboa Park designed by Jennifer Luce and a handful of newly minted Michelin restaurants, the Southern California city is an ideal destination even when the weather isn’t perfect. For where to stay, these four properties each offer a different style for every type of traveler, from the chic beach bungalows at the Green Room Hotel, to the city and bay views at Intercontinental San Diego, the laid-back luxury of Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa, and the throwback glamour of The Guild.

The Guild Hotel Tribute Portfolio, Downtown Columbia District
The Guild Hotel is a stately cornerstone of San Diego’s downtown neighborhood, steps from the Santa Fe Depot and Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Originally created in 1924 as a place for people to socialize and connect as a Navy and Army YMCA, the property has since been carefully restored and distinctly modernized into a welcoming boutique hotel that opened in 2019. High design and elegance are the draw at The Guild, where the rooms are minimalist, but with whimsical touches. The bar at the Guild offers Intelligentsia coffee and local pastries in the morning for guests and in the evening is transformed into a destination, where black and white movies are projected while craft cocktails inspired by prohibition stories are poured and guests sink into the luxurious velvet banquet. Meet you at the bar!
The Green Room Hotel, Oceanside
The Green Room Hotel, originally a motel built in the 1940s, has been given a second life as a modernized bungalow-style boutique hotel that opened in July 2021. Each room features custom art from local artists, found pieces of mid-century modern furnishings, unique Moroccan rugs, playful bathroom tiling, and in some units, kitchenettes with whimsical touches like retro-style appliances and private patios with outdoor seating. Located in one of California’s most booming neighborhoods, The Green Room Hotel is a place for the most diverse, eclectic, creative community members and travelers to come together. The founders have compiled a list of go-to local surf breaks, restaurants and coffee shops onto a map found in each room.
