Goal: CH Projects, San Diego’s premier hospitality group, has been a Katalyst client since 2020. With the launch of their first hotel, CH Projects looked to Katalyst to create a successful opening campaign that captured the attention of national, regional and local media highlighting the design, the immersive experience, multiple F&B outlets, as well as the buzz-worthy nature of the property.

Strategy: Beginning outreach to media before the opening of the property, sharing renderings, unique amenities and the history of the hotel, Katalyst was able to engage with media for pre-opening coverage and secure interest for future press trips. As the opening of the property drew closer, Katalyst strategized on an opening campaign that included a media and tastemaker event as well as media outreach to print, online and broadcast media. Crafting pitch angles that highlighted various aspects of the property, including the attention to detail the CH Projects team and their vendors contributed to the creation of the hotel, Katalyst shared multiple story angles with media, securing press visits from top media and coverage on all aspects of The Lafayette.

Results: The phase one opening of the Lafayette Hotel & Club became a whirlwind media experience, with hostings from top outlets that resulted in coverage from Sunset Magazine to Travel & Leisure, as well as stories in the LA Times, Wall Street Journal, CondeNast Traveller, Hospitality Design, Eater San Diego, UrbanDaddy, The Hollywood Reporter, Observer, InStyle Australia and more. The property is continuing to build on its success with the second phase opening in the coming months and continued traction as a must-stay destination for Southern California.
